A striking black-and-white building shaped like a slice of cake houses one of Frankfurt’s leading museums of contemporary art. Designed by Austrian architect Hans Hollein, the MMK opened in 1991 and its distinctive wedge-shaped architecture has become one of the city’s landmarks. The collection contains more than 5,000 works from the 1960s to the present, spanning painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation. Highlights include works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Gerhard Richter, Joseph Beuys and Dan Flavin, with particularly strong holdings in Minimal Art, Conceptual Art and post-war American and German art. The museum also operates ZollamtMMK and TOWERMMK as additional exhibition spaces.
