The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, recreates the atmosphere of an ancient Roman villa while housing the Getty’s collection of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities. Inspired by the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, the site combines classical architecture, gardens and views of the Pacific Ocean. The collection spans more than 4,000 years, with sculptures, vases, jewellery, coins and other objects from the ancient Mediterranean world. Visitors can explore galleries arranged around a central courtyard, walk through recreated Roman gardens and see highlights including ancient sculptures and painted vessels.
