St. John’s Church in Gouda is a world-class monument. With a length of no less than 123 meters, this Gothic cruciform church is the longest church in the Netherlands. Although the impressive architecture alone is worth a visit, the church attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year because of the “Gouda Stained Glass.” This is a unique collection of 72 sixteenth-century stained-glass windows that miraculously survived the iconoclastic riots and World War II. When the sun shines through the glass, the enormous church is transformed into an enchanting, colorful painting that tells stories from the Bible and Dutch history.
