The Pergamon Museum in Berlin is one of Germany’s most famous museums of ancient art and archaeology. Located on Museum Island, its collections include monumental architectural remains and artefacts from the ancient civilizations of the Near East, Greece and Rome. The museum is particularly renowned for the Pergamon Altar, the Ishtar Gate of Babylon and the Market Gate of Miletus, which brought monumental ancient architecture into the museum itself. The Pergamon Museum is currently undergoing extensive renovation, with parts of the building and collections closed to visitors during the redevelopment.
