The Paul Tetar van Elven Museum is located in a stately canal-side house on the Koornmarkt, where the painter and collector Paul Tetar van Elven (1823–1896) lived and worked. Upon entering, you are immediately transported back to the 19th century; the rooms are still furnished exactly as they were in the artist’s own time. Tetar was an admirer of the Old Masters and a passionate collector of antiques, Oriental porcelain, and Delftware. His studio, with northern light streaming through the tall windows, still exudes an atmosphere of creativity and craftsmanship.
