The Panorama Mesdag Museum is home to a unique cultural world monument: the largest painting in the Netherlands. The circular canvas, painted by Hendrik Willem Mesdag in 1881, is no less than 14 meters high and 120 meters in circumference. When you stand at the central viewing point, you are surrounded 360 degrees by 19th-century Scheveningen. Thanks to the ingenious lighting and the real sand in the foreground, the line between painting and reality blurs—a magical experience that has been astonishing visitors from all over the world for more than 140 years.
