Tucked away in Paris’s Nouvelle Athènes district, the Musée de la Vie romantique occupies the former home and studio of Dutch-born painter Ary Scheffer. Built in 1830, the house once welcomed artists, writers and musicians, offering a glimpse into the creative circles of Romantic-era Paris. The collection explores Romanticism through paintings, portraits, personal objects and memorabilia linked to artists such as Scheffer and writer George Sand. After a major renovation, the museum reopened in February 2026 with restored interiors and a renewed exhibition route. Its peaceful garden and glasshouse café make this intimate museum a quiet retreat from the bustle of the city.
