The Mauermuseum – Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie is a museum in Berlin, Germany, dedicated to the history of the Berlin Wall, divided Germany and the struggle for freedom during the Cold War. Located at Checkpoint Charlie, the museum opened at its current location in 1963 and documents the division of Berlin, escape attempts from East Germany and the eventual reunification of Germany. The collection includes original escape vehicles, photographs, documents and objects connected to successful escape attempts, including converted cars, a mini-submarine and a homemade hot-air balloon. Exhibitions also explore Checkpoint Charlie's role in Cold War history and broader themes of human rights and freedom.
