Maria Ten Hemelopneming in Veendam is a historic Roman Catholic church dating from 1844–1845. Designed by W.L. Hasselbach, the building is a Waterstaatskerk, a type of church built in the Netherlands under government supervision during the 19th century. The church was expanded and extensively renovated in the 1920s, when a Neo-Gothic choir, new altar, stained-glass windows and oak furnishings were added. The interior also features detailed woodcarving by Veendam sculptor H.A. ter Reegen. Listed as a national monument since the early 1970s, the church remains closely connected to the Catholic community of Veendam and its long history, which dates back to 1794.
