Behind the walls of Dresden’s Residenzschloss lies one of Europe’s most spectacular historic treasure chambers. The Grünes Gewölbe was established by Augustus the Strong between 1723 and 1730 as a Baroque showcase of wealth, power and craftsmanship. Today, the collection is split between the Historic and New Green Vault. The Historic Green Vault recreates the lavish original rooms with thousands of jewellery, goldsmithing, ivory, amber and gemstone works, while the New Green Vault focuses on individual masterpieces. Highlights include the famous Court of the Grand Mogul, the Dresden Green Diamond and the intricately carved Cherry Pit.
