The George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, explores the history of photography and motion pictures through the legacy of George Eastman, founder of Kodak. Established in 1947 in Eastman’s former home, the museum combines his historic mansion with extensive collections documenting the development of visual media. Its photography collection spans the invention of the medium to the present, with works by photographers including Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange. The museum also holds one of the world’s largest collections of motion-picture materials, including film technology, cameras, posters and archival material. Eastman’s restored mansion and gardens form part of the museum experience.
