The Church of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola is a magnificent Baroque church in the historic centre of Rome, dedicated to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order. Built in the 17th century, the church is renowned for its richly decorated interior and spectacular illusionistic ceiling frescoes by Andrea Pozzo. One of its most remarkable features is the painted ceiling, which creates the illusion of a vast dome opening into the heavens, despite the church never having received a real dome. Visitors can also admire Pozzo’s famous false dome and the elaborate decorations throughout the nave, making Sant'Ignazio one of Rome’s most impressive examples of Baroque art and architecture.
